Diversity, Equity, Inclusion in PMA

About the DEI Task Force

Caltech's mission is "to expand human knowledge and benefit society through research integrated with education. We investigate the most challenging, fundamental problems in science and technology in a singularly collegial, interdisciplinary atmosphere, while educating outstanding students to become creative members of society." The division of Physics, Math, and Astronomy recognizes that achieving this mission requires a supportive, equitable, collegial environment where all feel welcome and which empowers its members to advocate for a more inclusive culture in their fields.

The PMA DEI task force was convened in the fall of 2020 and is composed of faculty, postdocs, staff and graduate students in the division. The role of the task force is to come up with actionable recommendations for the PMA division and its departments to improve the overall culture and climate of our community. These actions may include a series of new guidelines, policies, and best practices for committee work (new and existing), admissions and recruitment, quality of experience, programming (e.g. colloquia and speakers series), new initiatives such as Caltech FUTURE programs, and places where the division should make financial investments.
